We are looking for...











A sharp and solution oriented Data Engineer who thrives on transforming raw information into meaningful insights and scalable pipelines. You will play a key role in helping us build and maintain a modern data ecosystem that supports both operational excellence and data driven decision making across Asuer and Botle Buhle Brands (BBB). This role is based in Johannesburg, offers a competitive salary, and gives you the opportunity to build the infrastructure that supports a growing fintech and direct selling platform serving over 50 000 Sales Force members.

As our Data Engineer, you will help lay the foundations for a high trust data environment by designing, building, and managing data pipelines and storage systems. You will work with internal and external data sources including PostgreSQL, Excel spreadsheets, ERP exports, cloud systems, and API feeds. Your work will support real time dashboards, automated reporting, and strategic analysis used by teams across operations, product, finance, and distribution.


You’ll work with tools like SQL, PostgreSQL, Google Cloud, AWS QuickSight, Excel, and Ubuntu in a fast moving environment where your work directly enables better decision making and customer service. This is an opportunity to create visibility, efficiency, and impact from the ground up.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS

What you'll be responsible for...


  • Designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines and integration workflows.
  • Optimising data storage, transformation, and access across cloud and local environments.
  • Collaborating with software engineers and analysts to integrate data across products and systems.
  • Setting up and maintaining databases in PostgreSQL and related environments.
  • Managing and transforming large Excel datasets for operational use and reporting.
  • Automating reports and dashboards in tools like AWS QuickSight or Excel.
  • Supporting clean data ingestion from ERP systems such as Odoo.
  • Ensuring data integrity, security, and version control throughout.
  • Working in Linux based environments Ubuntu and troubleshooting data operations issues.
  • Contributing to a culture of high trust and documentation around internal data practices.

Our requirements include...


Technical skills in:

  • Proficiency in SQL and relational database design
  • Python programming skills
  • Experience with an orchestration tool (Apache Airflow, Dagster or Prefect)
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL in production environments
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform or AWS
  • Comfortable working in Linux based systems
  • Understanding of ETL and ELT principles and the ability to write efficient pipelines
  • Familiarity with data transformation tools (dbt, Dataform)
  • Familiarity with reporting tools like AWS QuickSight or Google Data Studio

Must be able to:

  • Build and maintain reliable and scalable data pipelines
  • Integrate and transform data from multiple internal and external sources
  • Collaborate across teams to understand data needs and priorities
  • Maintain high standards of data quality, documentation, and reproducibility
  • Solve data related challenges in resource constrained or remote environments
  • Quickly adapt to new tools and technologies
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non technical teams

Knowledge & experience:

  • Cloud data platforms and storage solutions
  • Structured and unstructured data processing
  • Data security, access control, and governance
  • ERP systems and data exports from tools like Odoo
  • Version control tools like Git
  • Automating reports and creating self serve dashboards for stakeholders

Prerequisites:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Minimum of 4 years professional experience in a data engineering or data operations role
  • Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Full proficiency in English reading, writing, and speaking
