Data Analyst

The role

A Junior-to-Mid Data Analyst who can take messy business questions and turn them into clear reports, dashboards and decisions. You'll spend most of your time in SQL, Excel and QuickSight, working with the Data Engineer and Data Scientist to make Asuer's customer, claims and network data visible across the business.

Three-plus years of analyst experience and strong business instincts are what we're looking for.

What you'll get to do

You'll build the reports and dashboards the team relies on every day, answering questions like “how is this product performing?”, “why did claims spike last week?” and “which customer segment is converting best?”.

You'll write SQL against PostgreSQL, manipulate data in Python (Pandas, Matplotlib) and Excel, work in Jupyter Notebooks, and ship visuals in QuickSight (or similar). You'll interpret data using existing models, we're not asking you to build new ones (yet). We don't use the Microsoft stack.

Responsibilities

• Building business intelligence dashboards in QuickSight (or similar).
• Translating ad-hoc business questions into clean, repeatable reports.
• Writing SQL against PostgreSQL to extract, shape and validate data.
• Maintaining metric definitions so the whole business speaks the same language.
• Interpreting trends and anomalies using existing models and frameworks.
• Working closely with the Data Engineer (on data quality) and Data Scientist (on deeper insight).
• Documenting analyses, assumptions and methodologies for future re-use.

Our requirements include

Technical skills in:

• High level of SQL proficiency
• Python (Pandas, Matplotlib)
• PostgreSQL
• QuickSight or equivalent BI tooling
• Excel
• AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or similar)
• Jupyter Notebooks

Must be able to:

• Ask the right business question before pulling the data.
• Communicate findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Spot patterns in data and frame them as actionable recommendations.

Knowledge & experience:

• Junior to Mid seniority, minimum 3 years in a Data Analyst or BI role.
• Comfortable owning a dashboard end-to-end (design, build, maintain, communicate).
• Strong business sense and a curious mindset.

Prerequisites:

• South African work authorisation.
• Tertiary qualification in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or Engineering. WITS, TUKS/UP, UCT or Stellenbosch preferred.
